Artist's Statement
My intent as an artist is to show the human experience, the journey through life. Painting gives me empowerment to speak my truth. Early paintings explored the erotic mysticism of the female body, the awkwardness of growing in to becoming a woman. By way of seeing my process in sections under words like; breathe, feel, suffer, love, sex, life and death, I have learnt a way of expressing my experiences through the eyes of perception, eventually arriving at the eyes of my truth.
My journey through the human condition of life, love, death and passion can be related to many global historic traditions from Shamanism and the techniques of healing, to more traditional ways of understanding the nature of the soul and the higher self.
My work has sought the truth of the inner beauty of the soul. It celebrates the inner self, my ancestral Spanish and English roots. I use many symbols and signs of the truth of my soul and spirit, from memories of relatives, relations, lovers, friends and important flagstones in my life.
